A NEW VARIETY OF BLACK CURRANT DEVELOPED

In Buryatia, the scientists of Buryat State Agricultural Academy developed a new black currant variety, Baikalskoye Chudo (Baikal Miracle). It is characterized by the record content of Vitamin C and high yield. Besides, the new variety differs by its high winter and disease resistance. The yield of Baikal Miracle is about 5.5 kilograms per shrub. The mass of the berries reaches 4 grams. Biochemical analysis has shown that the berries contain 248 mg of vitamin C. Selectionists also transferred another currant variety developed by means of analytical selection method to variety testing. According to the results of the studies, the content of vitamin C is 236 mg.
