BAN ON CASPIAN ROACH CATCHING RESULTS IN STOCK INCREASE
26 November 2025 |
A total ban on catching Caspian roach introduced in 2025 has become a factor that had a positive effect on the natural reproduction of the species: more fish managed to pass to spawning places upstream of the Volga River. An increase of average harvest was registered. A ban on small-mesh seines during high water also contributed to the increase of the length of the fish migration routes. The Caspian roach reached the spawning places of the Volga-Akhtuba flood-plain for the first time in several years. The Russian fishers successfully engage in the commercial fishing of the Caspian kilka: the country has been holding leadership in the harvest of this species in the Caspian Sea since 2021. The harvest of common kilka by means of variable-depth trawls amounted to 20.9 thousand tonnes during the first three months of 2025.Source: https://www.agroxxi.ru/zhivotnovodstvo/novosti/zapret-na-vylov-vobly-vedyot-k-rostu-populjacii.html
