BANANAS MAY BECOME A FARM PRODUCT IN RUSSIA

Ministry of Agriculture is working out the issue of including bananas into the list of agricultural products. It will allow producers to use state support measures. Two large banana investment projects have been seriously announced in Russia recently. Design and construction of an experimental scientific and production subtropical greenhouse and hothouse with the area of 750 square metres have been started in Adler District of Sochi. More than 4 thousand tonnes of bananas are also intended to be produced per year in Nevinnomyssk of Stavropol Territory. They are planning to build greenhouses with the area of about 46 hectares for this. The cost of the investment project is estimated at 1.5 billion rubles. Experts think that Russian bananas will cost much more than those from Ecuador even with state support.
