CATTLE BREEDERS DEVELOP NEW COW BREED IN NIZHNY NOVGOROD REGION

The first calf that can become the first representative of a new breed of beef cattle, Nizhegorodskaya Nikitinskaya Myasnaya, was born in Nikitino robotized farm situated in Uren town. The official recognition of the breed requires 10 to 15 years of hard work to secure its characteristics. Cattle breeders will have to confirm the consistent transfer of valuable traits to progeny. However, the most important thing has already happened: the genetic basis has been created. Maternally, this unique bull calf is a representative of the popular Holstein dairy breed, and its father is a cross of well-known Simmental and Aberdeen-Angus beef breeds. Local geneticists, using their vast experience and modern selection methods, confidently state that the new Nizhny Novgorod cross will be distinguished by its perfect health. If fed correctly, the meat of these bull calves may reach the “marbled” quality.
