GOVERNMENT SPECIFIES THE STATUS OF ONE OF DANGEROUS WEEDS

Russian Government has revised the significance of one of the most dangerous weed plants of the country, the presence of which indicates that agricultural land plots are not used. The Cabinet of Ministers has prepared a resolution to this effect in relation to Sosnowsky's hogweed. This plant is dangerous for people in general and has the status of an invasive one. Invasive species and varieties of plants are those found outside of their native habitat and their distribution creates a hazard for the environment, people’s lives and health. The Government has pointed out that this dangerous plant requires a differentiated approach depending on the region of growing. The document developed by the Cabinet of Ministers clearly differentiates the cases when Sosnowsky's hogweed is a dangerous alien species, and cases when it is a usual plant. In the latter case, it will be classified as such for several regions of Russia, including the North Caucasus.
