KRASNODAR TERRITORY SOWS MORE THAN A HALF OF THE PLANNED SUGAR BEET AREAS

As at 25 March, about 133 thousand ha of sugar beet have been sown in Krasnodar Territory, this is more than a half of the planned area of 225 thousand ha. According to Yevgeny Ivanov, the lead specialist if IKAR (Institute for Agricultural Market Studies), sowing started earlier than traditionally this year, same like last year. So, apart from Krasnodar Territory, sowing is actively carried out in Stavropol Territory – about one third of the planned areas have been sown there. Black Earth Region will start sowing next, in two-three weeks, other regions will start later. Altai begins the latest – as a rule, during May holidays. According to experts, sowing is carried out actively and as scheduled, but its results will depend on further weather conditions and economic factors. Sugar’s export potential is 1.4-1.5 million tonnes in the season of 2025/26, about 1 million tonnes were exported during the last agricultural year. Therefore, exports may reach the record of 2019/20 season (1.5 million tonnes).
