Russia Actively Develops Domestic Seed Production

Import dependence of the Russian seed market has noticeably reduced. The decrease of potato and seed onion imports has reached 92% and 77% accordingly. There is also a decrease in vegetable crops in general — 55%. Deputy Head of Russia’s Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance Anton Karmazin has underlined that domestic producers successfully substitute imported analogues. The increase of seedlings imports from Belarus is especially noticeable — up to 110 million pieces. And deliveries from Lithuania have decreased to 63 million pieces. Seed production in Russia is expected to grow by 15% during the current year, which will make it possible to reduce import dependence to 60%.
