RUSSIANS EAT 100 KILOGRAMS OF VEGETABLES PER PERSON

At year-end 2025, vegetable consumption may exceed record 107 kg per capita. The forecast is based on changes in the structure of agricultural production and the eating habits of Russians. In 1990-1999, average vegetable consumption in Russia was 77 kg per person per year, in 2000-2009 it was 88 kg, in 2010-2019 it was 103 kg, and it is 105 kg since 2020 till present. After 2014, Russia ramped up the development of its vegetable production, and, in particular, large investors created a powerful greenhouse business. This has become a market filling factor. Besides, eating vegetables is becoming fashionable. Vegetable consumption is expected to reach the recommended 140 kilograms per person per year during the nearest 10-15 years.
