RUSSIANS SWITCHING TO DOMESTIC WINES
16 March 2026 |
The share of wine in the sales mix of alcohol increased to 38.8% at last year end in Russia. At the same time, the sales of strong alcoholic drinks and imported wine are decreasing, and Russians are switching to domestic wine, the analysts of Roskachestvo say. Experts point out that the share of still wines in the total consumption of alcohol stronger than 9% grew more dynamically: by 2.1 p. p. on 2024, up to 27.2%. Sparkling wines accounted for 11% of sales in litres last year, up 0.7 p. p. At the same time, if we look at the wine category more closely, the growth was wholly provided by the Russian producers. Retail sales of Russian still wines grew by 4% in litres last year compared to 2024, while those of imported ones reduced by 13%. The situation is similar with sparkling wines, where Russian producers increased the volume by 5%, while imported ones lost about 14% of volume sales. Analysts say these tendencies are the result of the state policy aimed at the support of Russian winemakers. Among other things, it includes preferential excise rates and programs for promoting Russian wines in retail.
