WHAT DID THE TESTS OF THE FIRST BANANA HARVEST COLLECTED IN SOCHI REVEAL
27 August 2026 |
In the subtropical greenhouses of Sochi, the first harvest of bananas at 100% ripeness has been obtained. Before the domestic exotic fruit reaches the shelves, a sample from a batch weighing about 150 kg was sent for testing to the testing laboratory of the Novorossiysk branch of the Federal Center for the Assessment of Safety and Quality of Agricultural Products. Earlier, in May 2026, the Novorossiysk branch of the Central Research Center for Agro‑Industrial Complex had already conducted an analysis of bananas grown at the resort and picked at an early stage of ripeness. The May studies recorded an almost two‑fold superiority of domestic fruits over imported counterparts in terms of magnesium content. Now the task is to thoroughly assess the quality of bananas that have reached 100 percent ripeness. The banana cultivation project by the sea is being implemented under the auspices of the ANO “Academy for the Development of Subtropical Agriculture.” The basis for industrial cultivation is the innovative greenhouse complex of the KFH “100 Hectares” in Sochi. The plantation was established by farmers in 2025 and now includes 300 banana plants. The planting is based on varieties imported from Ecuador: “Grand Nain” and the popular commercial “Cavendish”. The breeding work is overseen by the Research Institute of Agriculture of the Academy of Sciences of Abkhazia in Sukhumi. Currently, 120 plants are bearing fruit, and another 45 are in the flowering stage. Source: https://rg.ru/2026/08/27/reg-ufo/chto-pokazali-ispytaniia-sobrannogo-v-sochi-pervogo-urozhaya-bananov.html
