AGRICULTURAL IMPORTS TO RUSSIA HAVE ONCE AGAIN EXCEEDED EXPORTS

Russia increased its exports of agro-industrial products by 24.9% in January–August 2026 compared to the same period last year, while imports rose by 5.1%, the Federal Customs Service reported. For four consecutive months, exports had exceeded imports; however, by the end of July, the figures had equalized, and by the end of August, imports once again surpassed exports in monetary terms. Exports of food products and agricultural raw materials (excluding textiles) grew by 20.1% year-on-year to $28.6 billion, while imports increased by 4.8% to $29.1 billion. According to customs statistics, Russia's foreign trade turnover reached $505.5 billion in the first eight months of 2026, a 13.8% increase over the same period in 2025. Exports totaled $304.2 billion (up 14.2%), while imports of foreign goods amounted to $201.3 billion (up 13.1%). The raw materials sector traditionally remains the key driver of export revenues; mineral products accounted for 56.1% of the export commodity structure during the January–August 2026 period.
