BELGOROD REGION HAS TO HARVEST ABOUT 600,000 HA OF GRAINS AND PULSES

The agricultural enterprises of Belgorod Region have started to harvest grain and pulse crops, the total area of which is about 600,000 hectares in the current season. The main volume of works is accounted for by winter wheat, and the first threshings in Veidelevka District and Rovenki District show an average crop productivity of 40 to 50 metric centners per hectare. The spring sowing of these crops amounts to almost 230,000 hectares, including 64,700 hectares of barley, 68,600 hectares of spring wheat, 87,700 hectares of grain maize, and 4,100 ha of pulses. According to the estimates of the local authorities, the total gross yield of grain is to amount to about three million tonnes in the region, which will allow of covering the internal needs in food and ensure supplies to the other regions of Russia.
