NEW LENTIL CULTIVARS TO BE BRED IN OMSK

Omsk agrarian scientific centre has become a co-executor of the federal project on creating highly productive domestic lentil cultivars. The project is being implemented as part of the Federal Scientific and Technical Program of Agricultural Development till 2030. Its aim is to bring the provision of domestically bred seeds to 75% in four years. The work is being carried out as part of the national project on Technological Support of Food Security. The scientists are planning to create three new lentil cultivars: small-seeded green and red lentils, as well as large-seeded green lentils. Simultaneously, the technology of their growing will be developed, and a patent is planned to be obtained for it. The cultivars should be high-yielding, drought-resistant, with high protein content. Now the specialists have to develop an accelerated selection model.
