NEW WHEAT CULTIVARS GAIN ORGANIC CERTIFICATION FOR THE FIRST TIME IN RUSSIA

Russian Quality System (Roskachestvo) issued a certificate of conformity with the requirements to organic production for Khorasan and Polish wheat cultivars for the first time. The crops are grown by Stavropol’s OOO Moya Mechta company. The producer has passed the two-stage certification procedure by the Roskachestvo-Organic accredited body and collected a certificate of conformity to GOST 33980-2016 for the production of organic goods –Polish wheat, Khorasan wheat, and Einkorn. To get an organic status for a product, the whole production cycle – from growing to packing and processing – must comply with the GOST requirements for organically produced products, meaning no synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, and GMOs were used during production. All producers which got the organic certificate are recorded into the Unified State Register of Organic Producers of the Russian Ministry of Agriculture and receive the right to label their goods as Organic.
