NICHE CROPS PRODUCERS TO BE ABLE TO USE PESTICIDES WITHOUT ADDITIONAL CERTIFICATION
11 July 2026 |
The producers of niche agricultural products will be able to use plant protection agents using simplified regulations. Amendments to the act On Safe Handling of Pesticides and Agrochemicals passed earlier by the deputies of the State Duma have been endorsed by the Federation Council and approved by the President Vladimir Putin. The new mechanism will start working in September next year and allow farms to legally treat related crops with agrochemicals registered in our country, bypassing the re-testing and certification procedures. The register will be formed on basis of the botanical similarity of niche crops with the key agricultural crops for which the products are already officially registered. Niche crops are not provided with the necessary set of legal agrochemicals now. This, among other things, refers to commercial berry production as well. Agrarians often lose about a half of their yield due to the absence of modern protection systems. Berry producers evaluate regulatory changes positively, however, they emphasize that the effect of the law will directly depend on the registry compiling method.
