RUSSIAN WHEAT CAPTURES ONE THIRD OF AFRICA’S MARKET
31 May 2025 |
The share of Russian wheat supplies to African market is one third of the total imports of these countries. In agricultural years 2018 - 2021, about 15 million tonnes were exported in this direction. In 2023-2024, the figure already increased to 20 millions. On the whole, the countries of the continent purchase about 60 million tonnes of the crop per year. Wheat is already delivered to 40 countries of the continent. In particular, the success of the current year is the sharp increase or the beginning of supplies to Algeria, Kenya, Libya, Morocco, Tunisia, and Tanzania. The reasons for this trend are said to be the active growth of population, middle class increase, and even the increase of purchasing power, despite serious economic problems on the continent.
