SCIENTISTS GIVE CROP YIELD FORECASTS BY THE END OF THE CENTURY

Britain’s scientific journal Nature published a research on how the change of climate will influence the global food system by the end of the XXI century. Scientists think that Russia’s wheat plantings will decrease sharply, and the plantings of many crops will be moved to the north. It is estimated that world’s corn yield loss will decrease to 40% depending on the region. Corn yield will drop in the southern regions of Russia as well. But there will be an increase in the northern regions, as well as in the Far East. A shift to the north is expected for other crops too, for example, scientists forecast a growth in soybean yield for the centre of the country, Primorye, and the Volga Region. And sorghum will become the main crop for Russia by 2098. Russia will be able to grow this crop almost everywhere and in large quantities.
