SUGAR PRODUCTION IN RUSSIA IN 2023 INCREASED TO 6.6 MILLION TONS

According to the Russian Sugar Producers’ Union (Soyuzrossakhar) the growth amounted to 670 thousand tons compared to 2022. Sugar production volume of 2023 became the second record indicator after 2019 for the entire history of Russian sugar beet sector.
Currently, processing of sugar beet harvested in 2023 is continued at 40 of 66 sugar plants. 19 thousand tons of sugar are produced daily. It is 7.4 thousand tons higher than the daily consumption.
According to the forecast of the Institute for Agricultural market studies, sugar production in this season will almost amount to 6.8 million tons (+10,5% on last season). The growth of production is driven by the increased beet harvest which is estimated at 52.5 million tons.
