THE MODEL HERD OF JERSEY CATTLE IS BEING CREATED BY SCIENTISTS AT THE L.K. ERNST FEDERAL RESEARCH CENTER FOR ANIMAL HUSBANDRY IN THE VORONEZH REGION.

From September 7 to 11, 2026, specialists from the Federal Research Center for Animal Husbandry — VIZh named after L. K. Ernst carried out large‑scale work with Jersey cattle at the production sites of the Molvest‑Agro Group of Companies in the Voronezh Region. The work was carried out within the framework of the Agreement on Scientific and Technological Cooperation between the Federal State Budgetary Scientific Institution Federal Research Center VIZh and the Molvest‑Agro Group of Companies. The parties have approved the Action Plan for 2026–2030, which includes the creation of a model herd of animals with improved economically useful traits. A comprehensive survey of the livestock is being carried out this year. Scientists have already collected biological material for molecular‑genetic studies. The data obtained will make it possible to form an accurate characterization of the genetic structure of the herd and confirm the reliability of the animals’ origin. The implementation of the project is an important step in improving the breeding and productive qualities of Jersey cattle, including establishing the herd’s genealogical structure and developing a plan for assigning bulls, taking into account the available and market‑available semen.
